When King Solomon started building the Temple of God, in 1 Kings Chp: 5, he orders to get the Lebanon tree,
Lebanon tree played an important in during the civilization for mankind in history and we can see one of the best references of this tree during time of David, Psalm 92:12,
What is so important about this tree?
Qualities of the Lebanon tree (Cedar Tree) are
- Beautiful color and evergreen
- Exquisite fragrance,
- Not attracted to insects humidity or any temperature
- Grow Tall
- Deeply Rooted.
Cedar is derived from old Arabic, i.e Firmness or strong and firmly-rooted tree,
Some of reference we can find in the bible, where David compares righteousness to the cedar tree and in Num: 24:6: we can see Israel is happy like cedar tree beside the water, deeply rooted,
Today these trees are very few, because of deforestation, in bible the word cedar is mentioned in 65 places in the Bible and “cedar tree” is found in 6 places. now when we medidate the word of God, we find this tree mentioned in books like in psalms, 1kings, Numbers,Hosea, amazing fact is even this tree or “I’ can say it has set an testimony and example how to live in God and be rooted in God ,walk with him”
I want to share something about this tree and how it implies to our spiritual walk with God,
Lebanon Tress was planted by God himself, if we read bible carefully
Psalms 104:16 onwards
The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted and also talks about all the things God did to create an atmosphere where the cedar would live and thrive. He has done the same for us and they flourish in the courts of our God. They were not on their own but the Lord provided for them. The Lord supplies all the sun, all the rain, all the nutrients, and all the care they need. They stand firm through any storm what may come across, they are productive,
Ezekiel 17:22-24, God uses this tree as a message to Israel to Ezekiel,
22 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. 24 All the trees of the forest will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish.
Why god would do this, why is he giving so much important to this tree that he planted?
In the same ways God created us like this tree and so what is that we need to do to be like this tree
Jeremiah. 17:7-9: Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord. He is like a tree planted beside waters that stretch out its roots to the stream. It fears not the heat when it comes, its leaves stay green. In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit”
We are also compared to tree Lebanon since we are God creations, when we deeply study this verse in Jeremiah,
If we see ROOT is the base of this tree, without root no tree can stand, root serves so many function like hold firmly and intake of water food and minerals, where root is penetrated into soil deeply,
Today we are missing out our roots in the lord, our roots are weakened, that why we are not growing and not bearing fruits as God wants us to be and do.
When look at SHOOT, Isaiah prophesied, “A shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom…. On that day, the root of Jesse, set up as a signal for the nations, the gentiles shall seek out, for his dwelling shall be glorious. On that day the Lord shall again take it in hand to reclaim the remnant of his people” (Isa. 11:1, 10-11). Jeremiah also foretold: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David. As king he shall reign and govern wisely, he shall do what is just and right in the land” (Jeremiah 23:5).
Job 14:7-9: For a tree there is hope, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again and that its tender shoots will not cease. Even though its roots grow old in the earth and its stump die in the dust, yet at the first whiff of water it may flourish again and put forth branches like a young plant”
JESUS also speaks about this in his parable
Mark 4:5-6: Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. 6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away
Mark 4:16-17: And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.
John 15:4-7: Live on in me, as I do in you. No more than a branch can bear fruit of itself apart from the vine, can you bear fruit apart from me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who lives in me, and I in him, will produce abundantly, for apart from me you can do nothing. A man who does not live in me is like a withered, rejected branch, picked up to be thrown in the fire and burned. If you live in me and my words stay part of you, you may ask what you will: it will be done for you”
Therefore in Colossians 2:6-7: Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
I shall conclude this by telling you all the more you get rooted in word of God and his ways, the more you will see the outcomes and benefits as the tress of Lebanon as it has been planted by lord most high God and the same God who created you and me,
Dear children’s of God, as you received Jesus Christ as your personal savior, you shall also see the same qualities as this tree of Lebanon
Stay rooted in the God, as the Lebanon tree (Cedar Tree)
